Faces of Kidderminster – Sandra Wolfenden

Sandra Wolfenden is a familiar face in Kidderminster. For 22 years she ran Natural Break, a café in Blackwell Street. She has had a stall on the market raising money for Acorns Children’s Hospice. And now she’s running the Exchange café which opened in the Town Hall last year.

‘I like to make people happy,’ says 71 years-old Sandra who runs the café along with her 72 years-old husband Nigel. ‘I have the perfect job.’

The café is open on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the cakes and treats are homemade by Sandra, anything from chocolate meringue to carrot cake, Victoria sponge, and delicious scones. She also makes hot food, toasted sandwiches, and omelettes.

‘I can’t stop cooking,’ she says. I love it when people say: “that was delicious.” It just makes me happy.’

Sandra ran Natural Break until she retired 12 years ago. She says running the Exchange Café feels like a dream. ‘It was something I really wanted to do,’ she says.

‘It’s a lovely place. I love children and they love me too. When the children come in they know my name and they run to me.’

The café is a meeting place at the heart of Kidderminster Town Centre. There is a child friendly area where little ones can explore their creativity with friends and there is an arts activity space for workshops.

‘I enjoy chatting to the people who come in,’ says Sandra. ‘I love meeting people, they’re so interesting. I have a lot of regulars already, and they’re bringing their friends in too.

‘People have made friends in the café and have met people they haven’t seen for years, it’s brilliant.

‘I welcome everybody. I know a lot of people in Kidderminster, and I’d do anything to help anyone if I could.’

Sandra has been married to Nigel for 40 years and they live in Kidderminster. ‘I certainly don’t want to move anywhere, she says. The people in Kidderminster are lovely. If I won billions, I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I just love it here. I’m very happy.’

Eazy Lounge have only gone and done it again! 🤩 Back in April, we were celebrating them being crowned Best Café in Worcestershire, and now they've been nominated for Best Café in the Nation! ⭐ Full credit to the whole team. It's amazing to see a local independent business continue to thrive and receive the recognition it deserves. The passion, effort and care they put into what they do is clear to see, and they've built a genuine connection with the local community along the way. It's brilliant to see a Kidderminster business in the national spotlight, and we'd love to see them go all the way. 💙 If you've enjoyed a visit to Eazy Lounge, please take a moment to support them and cast your vote via the link below 👏 VOTE https://nominees.info/vote #kidderminster #worcestershire #support #local #love #team #business #cafe #community

Have you spotted the flowers around town yet? 🌸 They're pretty hard to miss and, honestly, they're looking stunning right now. With the warm weather we've been having, the baskets and flower beds are really starting to bloom and bring plenty of colour to the town centre. It's great to see a bit of nature around the town, and the flowers really help bring some life and colour to the streets. The recent sunshine has certainly done them a few favours, and they're looking better every day 💙 In partnership with Wyre Forest District Council and Kidderminster Town Council #Kidderminster #Worcestershire #support #flowers #spring #nature #local #love

It’s been another warm week, and our team have been busy helping to keep the town cleaner, safer and more welcoming for everyone. With summer just around the corner, we know how important it is to stay on top of things, so this week we’ve been tackling weeds, clearing overgrown greenery, removing litter and giving areas around the town centre a well-needed tidy up. ☀️ It’s also great to see a bit more colour appearing around town as the flowers begin to bloom As always, a big thank you to everyone who stops for a chat or says hello while we're out and about, we really do appreciate the support. 💙 #Kidderminster #Worcestershire #local #spring #love #new #team #Community #nature
